I had a log from a Russian Olive tree that was just screaming at me to cut it up. So naturally I obliged and took it to the bandsaw.
After taking a lot of waste off the log, I started shaping it on the lathe. I shaped and sanded it smooth before taking it to the drill press.

I used a 9/16” forstner bit to drill as deep as I could. Then I had a longer 9/16” twist bit that I went deeper with.

The grain and color of the Russian Olive is very nice on its own, but I wanted to add some extra detail to it. So I used my Lichtenburg Burner to burn some designs on it. I put five thick coats of varnish on the inside, to waterproof it for holding water.
