This vase started out as a scrap piece from a 8 x 8 decking post.

Here is the beginning and end process on the lathe.
I drilled the center out on the drill press. The top part of the vase, I used larger forstner bits to form the tapered opening. Then with a drum sander, I smoothed out the taper.

Wrapping sandpaper on a dowel, worked good for smoothing out the inside.

The cedar was very plain looking, so I decided to get out the Lichtenberg Burner to add some features to the vase.
The baking soda that is needed for using the Lichtenberg burner, discolors the wood. So to compensate for that I dyed the wood with some dye from a printer. When the dye dried, it came out a brilliant blue.
I sprayed the finished vase with three coats of clear finish. Each coat made it darker and darker. The final coat made it a very dark green.
