For Christmas this year, I made this desk clock for someone that works in a bank. I figured it would fit in well in his office.

I glued two 2x6s together and then with a bandsaw, I cut out the “S” shape. Then using a dado bit, I cut two slots for the straight lines on the dollar sign.

The next step was to cut out the clock face, and router out the back side for the clock mechanism.

I also drilled holes in the face for the twelve hour markings. Then I filled the holes with epoxy, that was mixed with charcoal dust.

Before painting, I drilled the holes for three ¼” dowels to support the clock face. I also notched the straight dollar sign lines for the clock face to sit into. This was necessary because the longest stem that you can get for the clock mechanism is only ¾” long.

After everything is painted and finished, then you glue the dowels in to hold the clock face. After trimming and sanding the dowels off, you just need to touch up the spots at the dowels.
All that’s left now is to install the clock mechanism and glue in the dollar sign lines.
