I made this simple router sled when I was making some cutting boards from raw lumber. I used some old Formica so that it would have a slick surface for the router to slide on.

The upright rails are not attached to the base board. Instead I have them pinched onto the base, by running long screws up from the bottom rails.
To make this easy to set up I am keeping a solid, flat base board set aside just for this router sled. Also I am keeping the rails that I made perfectly straight.
I’ve found that you need to keep the raw wood stationary on the base, and move the sled, as opposed to moving the raw wood around. Double faced woodworkers tape usually works good for this. If you don’t fasten the project down, sometimes the router will catch the wood and slide it around, or worse yet, make it bounce, and you’ll end up gouging your project.
