SMALL COLORED VASE

This is one of the simplest lathe turnings that I've done, but it is still one of my favorites. I really like the simple shape and color in it.

I started out by gluing 2 x 6s and 2 x 8s together.

Then turned and sanded it on the lathe, until I was happy with the shape.

I bored a hole on the drill press. I actually drilled it while the vase was still attached to the base from the lathe. This way I could clamp it down to the drill press table.

To make the grooves in the wood, I first tried using a rotary tool. The grain lines in the wood, threw the rotary rasp, not allowing me to make straight lines.

I found that burning the lines in with a wood burning tool gave me the results that I was looking for.

A good coat of black spray paint, and some brush on paint is all that's need now.
