My youngest granddaughter is a master at this game. For Christmas this year I decided to make a yard size game so she could play this game with the neighbors.

I decided to keep it simple, and make it where you just tip the board over to empty the discs. Since she’s not very big, I needed to keep the weight down. So I went with 1/8” Masonite for the project. I got the Masonite that is white on one side.

For making the holes and the discs, I used the Jasper Circle Cutter attachment for my router.

After making all the circles, you’ll need to clean up the edges. The discs are easy to sand. The holes are a little awkward to sand though, so I used a small drum sander to make it easier. Knowing that all the circles would need to be sanded, was another reason I went with the Masonite. It sands easily, and you don’t need to worry about slivers.

For spacing the two sides, I used some thicker Masonite, allowing enough room for the discs to slide easily, but not too wide for the discs to double up in the slots. I used construction adhesive for gluing the Masonite together, since wood glue wouldn’t adhere to the slick Masonite surfaces.

I glued it all together using plenty of clamps and two sheets of ¾” wood.

After painting the discs, I was worried about the discs sticking together, with the paint having a little sticky feeling. One coat of shellac gave it a dry slick surface. If you don’t have shellac, then water based polyurethane will work too. But the shellac does have a slicker finish.
