WOODEN FLOWERS

These were a birthday gift for Tracy. I started out making these by tracing out the letters onto a board, using carbon paper.
Next, using a small router, I traced the shapes of the letters with a 3/8" straight router bit. Then I cut out the individual letters in the shape of flowers.

Then I filled the letters with cut up pieces of crayons.

Now is the time to melt the crayons. I tried a pencil tip propane torch, but the force of the flame had a tendency to blow the melted crayon wax out of the indention. A small butane torch worked much better. You do have to try to be careful not to burn the wood.
For the vase, I had an old oak leg from a bed, that I turned on the lathe, and then cut the finished vase off with the bandsaw.
I stripped the insulation off of some #12 solid electrical wire, for the flower stems

It wasn't a spectacular looking woodworking project, but it brought a spectacular looking smile on Tracy's birthday.
