I was very excited about making something for my granddaughter for her Birth-day. I decided to make an intarsia picture. Intarsia is the art of cutting individual pieces of wood, then assembling them to make a three dimensional design. This picture has 67 individual pieces set at different elevations to give it a more three dimensional look.

This intarsia was made for my grandson, who was given a nickname of “sloth” by his younger brother.

I used all different shades of cedar and redwood to make it. I also ripped some branches in the band saw for it.

To give the look of fur on the sloth, I hit the wood with a wire wheel.

To make the frame, I used the small size FF biscuits for the corners. This is a really convenient way to assemble frames.
